Last week I was studying the word faithful as it pertains to God and found some interesting facts. God is known as the Faithful God (Deut. 7:9.) It’s one of His names, one of His attributes. The word faithful, in Hebrew is ‘aman. It’s where the Hebrew word amen comes from. It means firm, certainty, steadfast, truth, verily, sure.
In ancient times, nomadic people would follow their herds. They might stay at a place for weeks or even months depending how long the pasture would sustain the herd. They would set up camp. They would look for hard ground in which to place their tent stakes, too soft and the stakes won’t hold up to strong winds or a storm. The stakes would be driven down into the hard ground. They would stay put. That is a picture of faithful, Regardless of what comes God remains faithful, firm, steadfast, unmovable, fixed.
God’s love is faithful. He loves us with an everlasting love and with loving kindness He draws us to Him (Jer.31:3.) Romans 5:8 says, “But God proves His love for us in this , while we were still sinners Christ died for us.” Nothing in all creation will be able to separate us from this love (Rom. 8:38, 39.) Why, because God is faithful.
His word is faithful. What He promises, He will do. Isaiah 55:11 says, “So My word that proceeds from My mouth will not return to Me empty, but it will accomplish what I please, and it will prosper where I send it.” When the Prophet Jeremiah had a vision, God told him, “…You have seen well, for I am watching over My word to perform it (Jer. 1:12).” Sometimes it may seem like God isn’t going to answer but He’s not on our timetable, we need to be on His. It may tarry but wait for it. God is faithful.
In Revelation 3:14 Jesus is called the Amen. Remember the word amen is from the word ‘aman. So when the scripture calls Jesus the Amen, faithful isn’t just an attribute, God puts skin and bones on it, and call Him our Lord Jesus Christ.
